Homewares // Rugs for the Rugrats
It seems finding a rug leaves most people stumped. So many rugs on the market but a lot are cheap, nasty and downright ugly. So I've done some research to find the coolest rugs for kids on the market. My experience is that people want to get a feel for a rug in person however, with so many great rugs available online I've searched for a mix of rugs that can be found in person, and online.
The right rug can really bring a room together, it can make or break a room, but to be sure you get it right, here are some tips to keep in mind:
Make sure you get the right sized rug and treat it as an anchor point for the room. Buy a larger rug for a larger room like a playroom, or buy two medium size rugs and overlap them. Rugs are a great way to define different zones within a room. As a general rule, be generous and always buy bigger when it comes to rugs.
When considering texture, colour and pattern think about the other elements in the room. Is the room busy with colour and patterns? Then go with a neutral rug. Is the room minimal and neutral? Then go with a rug that is bold in colour or texture, to add interest. It's all about balance.
Consider the material for the purpose. Wool and hemp are natural, durable and hard wearing, recycled plastic is easy to clean and suits high traffic, synthetic might be a perfect short-term solution if you don't want to spend up big while the children are young (and messy!). It's like anything, the better the quality, the longer it will last.
Break the rules, and have fun with it...after all, it's child's play!
